Small Rant, Big Merch

The better half went to see Hamilton Leithauser and Kevin Morby last night at the 9:30 Club, and by her account it was a great show. I did the dishes, collected and put out the compost, watched some television with the kiddos, and did a bit of Bigfoot reading with the youngest. After ambling downstairs to go through photos and such, my wife returned with a lovely smile on her face and a giant foam hand on her… well… hand. Apparently, Hamilton’s youngest daughter threw them from the stage towards the end of the performance, but my wife fought off any instinct to push her fellow concert goers out of the way to catch one. After just about everyone around her had one, the FOMO began to seep in. To her, and by extension, my, relief a couple in front of her caught two, and asked her if she would like one. Now, this is probably not something I would spend money on, but I am glad that it exists, and glad that we can add it to our collection.

As I get older and think more about the future, and specifically my children’s future, I sometimes get a little curmudgeonly in my response to seeing things without a huge utility for their existence, especially when made out of foam. However, this huge hand, the design, the fact that it is a peace sign, and the excellent colorway it was created in has me dismissing any curmudgeonly responses, and just enjoying its beauty. Now where to store it…
